Is anyone able to offer insight into what this means?

I got DD's year 2 report during the week. It had her SATS results in it which were very very good. Also at the top of the teacher's comments for the core subjects (broken into four of reading, writing, maths and science) were 'grades' for attainment and then progress. The attainment grades varied between 'A' and 'B', and then the progress grades varied between 'B' and 'C' (other than science in which they were both the same, the previous 3 subject all had a grade lower progress score than attainment score if that makes sense).

Am I reading it correctly in that I think that whilst her work is good, she's not making the progress that is expected of her?

I'd suggest you ask her teacher if you are unsure. However, I would guess that a "C" for progress would show progress was as expected. So if she was doing very well at the end of Y1 and has continued to do very well (achieving her 1 NC level expected progress) she'd get a "C". This sounds in line with what you've seen. Are her Y2 grades what you expected?

You have to ask the school what they mean and how they calculate progress.

Depends on the scale. If it goes from A-Z then she is making very good progress :o

More likely it is
A-C or A-E where the middle value (B or C) is expected progress and those above being better than expected and those below worse than expected.

Tbh you are unlikely to get good attainment if you aren't making good progress, although it is affected by the starting point.

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately I can't talk to the teacher as she attends breakfast and afterschool club every day.

Her levels were better than (I) expected Redsky.

I don't know what the scale is Haunted, and I see your point about not being able to get good attainment without good progress, but it's the other way round for her. E.g. attainment B progress C which is the bit that confuses me. I could see the sense of it if it were the other way round.

Can you ring the school?
