Can we get into a school which is in the next SCA?

Hello, We have been overseas for about 3 years. We home edded our son this past year (Year 1) and now we are returning to the UK. We finally found a property we can rent but the local school has a bad OFTED rating. The school in the next catchment area has places -and yes, it has a "2" rating. Would it be possible to have a place in the better school or are we confined and doomed to the school in our area?

Oops, I forgot to say the property we are looking at is on the bus route to the school -which means I can get ds to school in 15min. max.

Yes, you can go to whichever school you want as long as it has places.

Do you have younger children? If you do you should be aware sibling priority varies from area to area.

Yes, if the good school has places that should be fine. I don't think you even have to be in the same LEA area.

Thank you all for the replies. I know it seemed a silly idea but we are newbies when it comes to school places and all.

May I play Devil's advocate & say Ofsted reports are not the only tool to rate a school on. We put the outstanding school 2nd & picked an out of catchment 'good rated' Ofsted school as our 1st choice. Looking back, the infant school we picked was ultimately the best for our children.
