Small montessori class to state reception?

DS has been at a lovely Montessori nursery since 13m and is now 4. He was moved up to the primary school linked to the nursery about 3 months ago, and is in a class of 5-6 children. He loves it there, but we have been given a place at an Ofsted 'Outstanding' rated infant school and plan to move him there in September for the new school year.

He is doing really well in the Montessori environment, finally mastered his pen grip properly, very enthusiastic about school.

Has anyone else made the change from this type of environment and how did your dc adjust? I am worried about him going from such a small class to 28-30 children with much less individual attention, and how it will impact his education.

he's in reception already, they just opened the school so put up some of the older children from the pre school class who they thought would benefit from the environment, which is why the class is very small. There will be more children joining at the start of the academic year (there will be some overlap before he leaves).

It's still very montessori based so not much structured teaching from what i have seen. He's actually turning 4 in a couple of weeks so is going to be one of the youngest in his reception class.

Thanks for replying, I think I will have to make up any difference educationally at home (will have more time then as leaving my current job). I do think it will be a massive adjustment but will be visiting the school in a couple of weeks and will have more of an idea then.

Is staying where he is an option ?

If he is not yet 4, he won't actually be officially starting reception until this September.

Lots of children who start in reception have come from very different settings and many have not been in any childcare at all.
