My ds starts in Sep too :)

I have got 2 school jumpers, 4 polo shirts, and two pairs of trousers.

Buy lots - BUT a lot of schools have 'used uniform' sales, so if you have the kind of boy that is tough on his clothes, you may want to supplement with this cheaper option!

HuwEdwards · 26/06/2012 23:20

Bonkey - reckon you'll need 4 jumpers....

tumbleweedblowing · 26/06/2012 23:26

I'd get at least one more jumper and pair of trousers.

M&S still have 20% off.

GraceK · 26/06/2012 23:28

M&S Stain Tec polo shirts wash well & are fairly stain resistant (though the little monsters do seem to get absolutely covered) - they have 20% off uniforms at the mo.

Keep an eye out for sales at the end of the summer holidays of summer stuff & pick up few pairs of shorts (if you get long-ish one with adjustable waists, then they'll last a few summers) - there are a number of boys in DD's class looking very hot & bothered whenever we have a hint of summer in their long thick / hard wearing trousers whilst the girls float about in sunfrocks.

I'm buggered if I am buying 4 outright. Expensive business this uniform Grin

I can always get another if needed but one every two days seems good to me. Ds is fairly good with clothes :)

watch the little monkey get through two in a month now Grin

Buy loads of jumpers, they go missing a lot! Buy as much as you can as soon as you can, if you leave it until august there will be nothing left in any size you want

BonkeyMollocks · 26/06/2012 23:28

Although I may very well get another pair of trousers.

Tgger · 26/06/2012 23:41

3 jumpers is fine and none of DS's have gone missing (depend on your kid/the school/luck!). You can probably survive on 2 if you don't mind washing/sending them in in dirty ones Grin. We've got more trousers and polo shirts as they're cheaper. Don't buy too many though as you may find you're buying the next size come Spring term....And don't worry about leaving it. I bought all mine (apart from the school jumpers) online in mid August. Although admittedly I did have to go with Tescos as all the others were sold out!!

We have got 3 jumpers, 6 polo shirts and 5 trousers. It's a fine balance between not getting too many because they grow out of it and not having enough! If you can, always buy the next size up when they are on sale. Of the 3 jumpers my son had, 2 of them had holes in within a week and 1 was too small so decided to go and get him some more. Could I find any? No chance, during the last month or so it's been a nightmare getting hold of jumpers. So if you can get the next size up as well!

mistlethrush · 27/06/2012 11:38

We only ever had at most two jumpers - but as they normally stay at the bottom of his bag, they tend not to get dirty or lost.

Two pairs of trousers / shorts as a minimum to start with - and we had sufficient shirts to last the week with a wash at the weekend.

redskyatnight · 27/06/2012 12:32

Interesting how it varies so much. Absolutely the norm at DC's school to buy one jumper and just wash at the weekend. Everyone thought I was extravagent when I bought 2 when he was in Reception!

I think 2 jumpers, 4 (or even 3) polo shirts and 2 pairs of trousers sounds like plenty!!

Brilliant thanks everyone - off to shop!!
