Year 1 assessment scores 1 to 140

Hi,

I understand the 1a 2a etc... assessment system. But after testing my GB has been given a score out of 140 (140 being mensa level! and 100 being the national average), one for maths and one for literacy. His teacher tells me that this is a national assessment that takes place in all schools and will happen each year. but i cant find anything out about it on the internet.

Any help gratefully received. Confused

IQ?

Pooka · 22/06/2012 22:46

Golly - never heard of this happening at dcs school!

Sounds like iq or equivalent test, similar to the WISC test that ds1 (incidentally also year 1) had done with an ed psych.

Am certain that dd now in year 4 didn't have this, and know that only testing within ds1's actual year one class recently has been the phonics test. Rest is teacher assessment and when we get reports I guess will probably include a sats level I.e. 1a/2c etc.

The way described above makes it sound like an IQ test, however I know our school do a reading test (Suffolk reading test??) that I think if they come out with the 'right' age they get a score of 100, below 90 means they are a bit behind, and I think above 110 means they are a bit ahead. Everybody in each class does the test in October time I think.

The only national assessment that gives numerical scores is the EYFSProfile

Lots of published tests give standardised scores but none are National_ Statutory
