Reception and child with speech problems

My son has some speech problems, he is quite hard to understand out of context and if you are not used to his speech. He is on the waiting list for speech therapy.

My concern is reception. His school has two classes per year. One of the classes with have two job share teachers the other one full time teacher. I am concerned that as the job share teachers will each see less of him than a full time teacher would it will take longer for them to get used to his speech and will cause frustration for both him and his teachers.

Do I have a vaild concern or am I worrying over nothing?

He sounds similar to DS2 who had loads of other problems but still managed to do very well in Reception; he didn't start his SLT until April of reception yr.

Could you leapfrog a bit, get some private SALT sessions before September? A lot of what they do is homework for you & will help you to help him in mean time before NHS SLT becomes available.

I think he will been seen around September. I made the referal direct to the speech therapist myself, she has to write a letter to herself via the local hosptial and then I call her back when I get hospitals letter - crazy system!

Hi my 6 year old had speech therapy from the age of 3. We had a meeting with the school. Has the school got a home school family worker you could speak to them and ask them for him to go into the class with the full time teacher so he has that continuity of care. They gave him about a term to settle in. I worry all the time about him still do really and because he still has bouts of in-fluency in his speech its worse.
