Presents for teachers (and TAs) - a question for teachers

I always like to give my DSs' teachers and TAs a small token of appreciation at the end of the year as I think they do a fab job. What do you like to get? What is the best (and perhaps worst) present you've ever got?

I won't get any yet, they are too busy teaching our children at the moment! I do have a teacher friend and she usually gets loads and loads of chocolate and wine and a few 'best teacher' cups or picture frames which she hates. Last year a load of mums clubbed together and got her Next vouchers which she thought was the best present ever, but I want to see what else comes up.

DS has a very trendy male teacher this year. The parents are clubbing together to get him Westfield vouchers.

I am teacher (on maternity leave) I always felt a bit gulity receiving presents for a job that I get paid for and love doing. The best presents were the cards with all the lovely things that my parents said. It was nice to sit and read them once the end of term rush was over. Clubbing together is a great idea, especially as most parent have more than one teacher to buy for and it can get expensive. Hope this helps.

The best presents are hand made cards from children and a note from parents saying something nice! These get treasured for a lot longer than flowers, teddy bears or chocolates!

At Christmas we made salt dough decorations as presents which I think the teachers and TAs liked, I do agree that the personal touch is better than a random box of celebrations. Hmmm, I'll have to think of something creative.

Don't buy anything from a card shop with the word teacher on it! Expensive, rip off tat! A homemade card, a drawing from a child is lovely. Like a previous poster I feel embarrassed getting gifts for something I love doing.

Thanks! That thread was useful and I've decided we're going to make some home-made chocolates together, me and the DSs, buy some nice boxes and ribbons and give to each teacher and TA. I hope they like them :)
