Missing year 6

We are wondering about taking our daughter out of school for year 6 so that we can go and live in India as a family (a country I know well.) She will go to school there but obviously wont be following the national curriculum. She is bright and adaptable.
I wonder what thoughts you have about the possible pros and cons of this? Some have suggested it's a great idea to miss a year when so much of the focus is on SATs. Others that it is too important a chunk of curriculum to miss and she may begin secondary school at a disadvantage. Your advice welcomed - esp from those whose children have gone through year 6.

Practical considerations - you will need to know what your choices for secondary school are so that you can make the application (by the end of October). Most counties/LAs have online forms so you should be able to complete it. However, if you're applying for a church school then supplementary forms are required which need to be completed and returned to the school.
Will you be returning in time for induction/transition days in June/July ?

Most secondary schools retest at the start of yr7 using CATs.
I would go for a great experience - there are plenty of worksheets etc online if she wants to see what year 6 are covering (and she wouldn't have the half year 'revising' for SATs).

If you were in my LEA your daughter would need to attend a 'banding' test at secondary school in December which has a major effect on whether she would get a place - the offers to the top band children go out to 1.7km, whereas the bottom band only stretches to about 750m...
