The school have apologised and we are getting a fresh appeal! Thanks for your support...now we have to prepare round two which may or may not work but hopefully we'll have a fair hearing.

That is good news, the behaviour was totally out of order.
Obviously it does not alter your situation at all as it will be taken as a completely new appeal with a different panel and clerk. You do need to make sure that it is a new panel and not the same one, which again would be totally out of order.
