Hi, I need some advice please. I have enrolled my middle child into our local school, I was within the second deadline and was told I would not need any other school choices than the one given. But they didn't offer the school I wanted
His brother goes there
I live on the same street and in catchment area.
I was top of waiting list but no place was available, My appeal board meeting is on the 4th. Can anyone explain the lodgic or offer advice about this. Really hate the school they offered and its a distance.
Thanks Ladies

On what ground will your appeal be based? Unless they made an error (ie. admitted a non sibling before yours) then you probably won't get far unfortunately.

You need to find out from the LEA if ANY places were offered after your application was submitted, as you would most likely have been the first - given that a sibling is in the school and you live so close. If they offered other places, find out the criteria under which they fell (children in care etc are ususally the highest criteria) and whether there was a distance factor to check it was indeed a sibling closer to the school than you are.

But top of the waiting list is good, surely someone will drop out by Sept (and if you're wanting the place now, there isn't much of the term left, which is small consolation).

All I can say is obviously make sure you fully understand the appeals procedure. Have any documents, statements, information they have asked for. At what point do you meet their criteria for admissions? Build as strong a case as you can. For example a friend of mine won an appeal in your circumstance as she didn't drive, had one child already in the school and was unable to be in two places at once. Another friend won appeal on grounds of child was quite often ill and the next school was too far away for her to collect when child ill or needing medication. Do you have it in writing that you weren't required to make any other choices, or can you name the person who told you this. Just in case they say your application wasn't completed properly. I'm sorry I can't help more as have not appealed myself. Good luck.

Are you in England? What do you mean by the "second deadline"?

I think you have a problem over the timing of your application. I think you were counted as a late application.
If you say which school, which LA and when you applied I can check what the situation is. PM me if you do want to put it on here.
