£10 worth raffle / 1 'luxurious' item for the hamper and 1 'normal' big bottle of drink for the tombola. Should I give more? I'm knew on school things.

Depends on the school. At DD's school (where I'm on the PTA) we would consider a parent generous if they made a few cakes and gave us a couple of reasonable quality 2nd hand toys.

We'd fall over in shock if we got a donation like yours.

That is what they asked. No toys, no home made cake or biscuits. I guess some other people are doing food from all over the world but they didn't ask in the letter for that. Only Luxurious food for the hamper, full bottles or tins/household goods. I didn't give any tins though...

I would say most PTAs would be very grateful for anything they are given. Your donations sound great, but if I had a few more bits lying around that were suitable I'd chuck them in too. Not saying you ought to, just that you seem to be restricting yourself from giving more. You won't be frowned upon for giving too much!

Sounds fine x

Grin at 'full bottles'

I usually give a tube of pringles or a cheap bottle of wine if they're lucky, that's plenty. Can you imagine if every parent in the school gives that much - they will have enough for every parent to win a bottle from the tombola and a hamper with 300 'luxurious' items in it (presuming its a reasonable sized school).

ludixon · 13/06/2012 13:52

That's quite a lot in my opinion, so you've done fine. At DS school, they ask for a bottle (normally of wine, but I have spied the odd fruit shoot!), chocolates or a decorated jam jar filled with sweets as payment for Mufti Day before each Christmas or Summer fair. Its an enormous school and they acculmulate loads, but it's for the bottle/choc/jam jar tombola, so works really well.

Also Grin at 'full bottles' having had the hilarious exprience of sorting through the donated items for the bottle bola and finding several opened bottles Shock and loads more out of date ones!!

OP your donation is more than fine.
