I was just wondering are these marked by the teachers in school or independently?

By teachers.

but at least 25% of school will externally moderated each year to ensure the marking is consistent and fair.

mrz At my DC's school I know that they select a few papers to internally moderate each year, is this in addition to the external moderation or in addition to?

Feenie · 02/06/2012 20:34

In addition. The external moderation process takes into account all evidence used to arrive at the final teacher assessment, not just the tests, which are a very small part

Thanks for the replies everyone.....the reason I ask is because my son was working on P scales in december but after a brief chat with his teacher he tells me he has done very well in his SATS....lvl 2's across the board, even though we were sure this was what our DS is capable of I'm sure you can imagine what I am also thinking!

He needs a lot more evidence than just the tests, although the progress sounds very encouraging.

Iamnotminterested most/all schools will do internal moderation as a matter of routine. The external moderation is a legal requirement in addition to normal school practice.
