Should I ask for a book?

Sorry, old, old chestnut this. I think my reception age DS may be ready for a reading book but don't want to look like a deluded pushy mother by asking for one if he's waaay off. He goes to a Welsh school and welsh isn't spoken much at home but he knows the Welsh alphabet - occasionally forgets 2 letters but the others he solidly knows. He also knows by sight some high frequency words and can work out a fair amount of the others. I've been the one teaching him the high frequency words (they were given to his older sister so I know they are the ones the school uses). So is it worth asking the teacher? I'm only wanting him to have one because he's bored of the high frequency words and I wonder if a reading book might appeal to him more.

I would just go to the library and get some for him to read. I do this with my daughter and her books as the ones she brings home are sometimes really boring. I know they have the graded early reader books in English in most libraries they might have some in welsh if it is a big library.

Usborne offer (relatively) a lot of books in Welsh and for younger readers. Ask your local Organiser or look at the usborne online website. If you get stuck pm and I'll try to help more.

Housework, our library does have a reasonable selection of welsh books but not many for those learning to read, which would mean me having to effectively get him a 'baby' book for it to be easy enough. Don't think it would go down well! I get lots for my older daughter as the school only gives them 1 book a week.

Veryconfused, didn't realise Usborn do welsh books, I'll have a look. Thanks!

Yeah most of the welsh books in our library are baby ones, have never seen the school type levelled ones in welsh tho. Are you near a big city? Maybe the larger libraries like Cardiff have them. (or they could order them in from another library?). What publisher does your daughter's reading books from school? Maybe you can buy a set of them?

They are the ORT in Welsh, to be honest though I'd rather just ask than spend a load of money on a set for home. I'll try the bigger library near us and see how we get on!
