dd is in y1 in a 1/2 class, and on the top table with only y1 children and no y2 children. yesterday she said she did not do her normal reading responce as her group where given a paper booklet to read and answer questions on. I asked if she had ever done work books like this before as I felt it must have been out of the ordinary for her to even mention. I wondered if this was a ks1 sat paper and if so why a group of the top y1 children would be given it? none of the y2 class are on the top table either so this made me wonder if they would use y1 children in sats statistics.

They won't usually include year 1 results in SATS statistics, but high achieving year 1 children COULD sit a KS1 paper as part of ongoing assessment procedures, not best practice but possible!

Ds told me that a y1 (ds is year 2) did the SATS as he wanted to have a go, don't know if his results are included but I didn't see the harm (he is a very early sept born so only just a year 1). Maybe they were just seeing how she does?

Im not sure I mind so much, but do feel if they were giving her sat papers for any reason, they may let me know. So is ks1 assesment done through booklets then, or is it just continiouse assessment based on their normal school work? I have no idea how it works. DDs school dont ever talk nc levels or anything, which is a good thing I have never asked what leevl she is assesed at, but have my own vague idea based on what I know she can do.
