There is a chance that DH's job will be relocated to Reading. We will need to move as we are currently in Shropshire. DH is willing to travel up to 45 mins so we have a wide search area to find a new home!

Our DD will be starting Yr 3 in Sept.

I don't what's the best way to proceed.

Should I call the relevant councils and ask for a list of schools with places? (Which as our area includes the whole of North Berkshire / South & East Oxon may be quite a few!) Then check them out, the look for a house.

OR. Look for a house, check out the school then find if there are places?

Any advice will be greatfully received

I had this problem -I narrowed my search down to a few places we wanted to live - then rang the addmissions team to find out where there were places - note they will only tell you what spaces are at the moment - maybe post in berkshire mumsnet area where are good places to live?
