DD is in year 3 and her class has been doing maths and literacy tests at school all week. She did SATS in Year 2 and I didn't think Yr 3 sat any??

There are optional SATs that some schools use to aid their assessment process. When I was at school (pre SATs :)) we used to have exams in Maths, English and Verbal or non Verbal reasoning in all the years in KS2. Your DD may be doing tests that aren't SATs at all - just ones the school uses.

OK - thanks :) Might check with her teacher.

Y2 and Y5 sit the actual SATs but i know some school use previous SATs papers for other years. My DD (Y5) will be doing Level 5 papers next week as part of her school exams.

DS yr3 will be doing SATs next week according to the school newsletter. I don't think they get nationally reported like yr2 though just used for assessing progress inhouse.

Just realised i wrote Y5 but actually meant Y6 (& Y2) doing SATs next week

Y2 and Y6 but in ds' school the juniors (Y3 upwards) all sit assessments in the same week as the SATS exams every year and then they have an en masse school week off work the following week when they do lots of fun things and really enjoy themselves and aren't set any homework or spellings or anything. Seems to work really well and the kids don't get stressed, just think SATS when they come to it are slightly more official Assessment Weeks. School does pretty well in league tables and is Outstanding so they must have something right.
