I was really impressed with The Hall when we looked around for our DC. Friendly intelligent staff and good facilities. It also goes all the way through to Secondary. I don't know anything about Rowans, sorry. Good luck

Hicksy - when will your daughter start school?

We also looked at both and they were very different schools - so which one 'feels' right for your dd? Have you visited them both?

In the area Rowans is seen as the more academic option, and perhaps more traditional in its approach to teaching. We discounted the Halls very early on for a number of reasons, but have friends who are happy there.

Have you considered the logistics of drop offs and collections?

If you haven't visited the schools do so ASAP I'd say! Good luck with your decision making!

I found The Hall to be a bit evangelical about some stuff, and the staff talk about The Head in hushed, reverential tones.

We liked the Hall too - and yes, the facilities were great - about the best I've seen... I wasn't sure I was completely comfortable with a slightly more 'progressive approach' (I'm an old fashioned kind of girl, evidently) and for us the pick up/drop off looked like a nightmare.

In the end we chose Ursuline Prep. Obviously it's a faith school, (Catholic, although we're CofE) so it depends whether you'd be comfortable with that, but it might be worth investigating. I'm not sure if they still have places or not.

Also it depends if you have another DC and whether that's a DD or a DS - single sex may not be an option if you have a DS and want them both in the same place.

Does your DD start reception this September or is she going into nursery?

It's just I know the Rowans main entry is at 3... Plus it only goes up to 8 (Pre-Prep rather than Prep) so it might be worth considering what you plan to do at 8+?

Hope this helps, and good luck!

I'm sure of the Hall feels right for you then your DD will do well there - especially if she's sporty/arty/a performer!
