Both my dc (7 and 4) are starting a new school in September. The uniforms are quite expensive, but today there is 20% off at the school shop. Is this too early to buy uniform? Would I be mad getting things 4 months in advance?

Definitely not mad if they are girls as skirts/dresses just get shorter. My dd has had the same dress and she's in year three now.

Older boy and younger girl. Don't suppose they will grow that much over the holidays...

I would go and get some. Our school uniform shop told us to keep the labels in and they would exchange them, if a growth spurt had occurred. We go the uniform beginning of July for September and it was all fine.

Go buy, mine never grow that fast, either.

Personally I wait, as I know my dc grow a lot during the summer hold. You probably know by now whether yours tend to spurt or not during the hols.

Also, if they are doing a sale now, check that the uniform is not changing
in the near future. I've been caught out like that before.

perceptionreality · 05/05/2012 09:23

Yes I would definitely take advantage of that. I usually try to buy dd2's stuff so it will last - the summer dresses are £30 each!

Thanks everyone. I got some things for them both, and I can exchange sizes if they do spurt.

Just get the next size up. Smile Is it a state school? I didn't think that they could dictate where the uniform should be bought from?

GateGipsy · 05/05/2012 16:26

Not so much dictate, just if there's only one shop selling the stuff that has a logo on it (jumper and polo shirt for nursery and reception, jersey, blazer and tie for Y1 to Y6) you don't get much choice. I don't think I've heard of our uniform shop ever having a sale. Go for it! Buy big, they'll fit it eventually.

Iamseeingstars · 05/05/2012 18:52

I would buy bigger sizes. They soon sprout up. Kids also like baggy clothes

SoupDragon · 05/05/2012 19:02

I did this for DD when she was due to start reception. I had to take everything back and exchange it for the next size up in September.
