RWI start with 'ditties' which are before books.

From memory (might be slightly wrong):

RWI goes

Green - 1C
Purple - 1C
Pink - 1B
Yellow - 1A
Orange - 2C
Blue - 2B
Grey - 2A

No, green onwards are proper books.

He may not get to green until Y1

1 and 2 are NC levels.

He should get to Grey towards end of Y1 or Y2. And by then he can read.

she brings home leaflet books, about 7 pages long with red/green words and speed words at end, are these prior to starting actual coloured books then? we have green ones, pink ones, blue ones labeled set 1 upto set 7, im confused. Smile

Those are the coloured books.

Set 1 is pink and level 1C - up to Grey which is Set 7.

As you go up the levels the number of pages increase :)

The red things are the ditties.

thank you. then do they bring home just library books? are they still heard to read, they are heard every day in small groups at present.

After Grey each school does something different.

They may go onto RWI Comprehension or RWI spelling.

Or may just read library books.

Probably will continue to do phonics every day in small groups till most of the kids have got to Grey. After they can read they normally concentrate on spelling.

But all schools are different.
