Walking to school

Is 2 miles too far for a four year old to walk to school? I would like your opinion please. I am also worried that walking back home after school will be a problem.

I would try the scooter or start her on a bike. I think a buggy board is too babyish for a 4-5 year old. At our school 2/3 of the children come with scooters, she may find it better as soon as she sees the other children. We leave the scooter there and I only take her helmet.

My DD scooters each day 1 1/2 mile and is doing fine. 2 miles would be ok in the morning but a tiny struggle in the afternoon if I would come without a snack.

I have my bike with me where all the school kit is in a basket plus my own stuff as I continue to the station to go to work. DD wears always a waterproof coat and I have a pack-away coat in my backpack plus a small umbrella. So far nobody ever got soaked.

It worked out well. Parents wrote a letter to their first choice school, which is the school nearest to them and easy to walk to each day, to pointed out that in the school's mission statement (not sure if this is the correct term) are very, very strong on community (they know that the school takes children from outside the area - it is a church school) also said how much they liked the school when they visited earlier and stressed how they had moved there to be part of that community and that their other child would eventually want to go to this school too. Parents had a letter to say that their daughter can start in September and the school has been really welcoming.

They are all so happy!!

me too!!!!

sorry if this is a bit muddled

My 2.5yr old can walk to and from school when I take her sisters. It is almost a mile each way and she does this twice a day, so close to four miles a day. She also has a disability with one foot but the distance is not an issue.
