Starting school mid year 1

After being home educated DS1 is starting school in Yr1 in 10 days time. It is his choice. Tell me your advice, about getting on in a huge city school in a deprived area. DS1 is a fluent reader but struggles with writing. His coordination isn't great so he struggles with socks and buttons too. At this point we are not interested in getting a diagnosis (possibly dyspraxia) but I think I should make the teacher aware.

What else?

There are so many rules & conventions about how (each) school works, petty little rules & even rules that seem petty but are reasonably about H&S & getting the needs of all met (sort of). I think he'll need to be ready for an extended period of adjustment.
The teachers will expect him to try to be self-sufficient with dressing, but (ime) there's plenty of help if he needs it.
