Has anyone else received letter today about merger between these schools? I am gutted. All set for DD1 to start reception in September and now they are essentially presenting us with a completely different school prospect.
Have just turned down state school place too, and was feeling so pleased about her going there.

I haven't actually read the letter yet as I'm at work, so just going off details in a text from DH, but just wanted to have a moan and see if anyone else in same position, and what you are thinking of doing.

I hadn't heard that. Have you thought about chesham prep? It's not far from haresfoot

Thanks - that's quite a way from our house, we're on the other side really. Another option is Francis House in Tring, which did seem like a lovely little school when we looked round before.

They have done a good sales pitch in with the letter telling us about the plans though, so I am not quite so gutted.

We'll have to have a think and go have a look at berko school and maybe Francis house again.

My main issue is that just as DD2 starts school, DD1 would move to different campus (haresfoot will be pre prep, Berkhamsted will be the prep) so they wouldn't be at school together which seems a bit sad. I'm not sure how important it is though, but as they might well be in after school clubs some nights it would have been nice for them to be together then (and of course easier to pick them up..)

Sigh. I was so pleased thinking this was all sorted out.

Yes really annoying. Mine are at chesham prep and I like the fact they see each other and get to know there friends. But that said I haven't asked the children what they think!!!

It's a big decision and once you have made it you don't need a spanner in the works like that.

Chesham prep. is only 5 mins down the road from Haresfoot, you should defenitely go and look. I would highly recommned it and mine are very happy there. I was chatting to someone who is looking to move oldest child to Berko and potentially a younger one too. Sadly the merger will put them on different sites so she has ruled it out and is now coming to look at Chesham Prep. Good luck!

If you are on the other side of town I would look at Francis House, it is a lovely school and my children have been really happy there. I agree it is really nice for the children to be on the same site and mine have loved sharing the same experiences. I would say its worth having a look and seeing what you think.

Only just heard about this and thought I'd mention that we moved our kids from state to Francis House. Was a few years ago but best move we could have made! Lovely school, boosted their confidence and both got excellent SAT results.

Oh I only saw the later replies on this today when I was trying to find the date I found out about the merger for another thread. Sorry for not replying - we have in fact gone with Francis House, and looking forward to her starting there :)

Tess / westier (if you see this) are your children still there?

Suggest you visit Chesham Prep yourselves - make your own mind up rather than be swayed by chat room gossip! Choosing the right school for your children is all about a gut reaction- do you like the staff, agree with the ethos . . . . ??
