Songs about transport

I need some songs to sing with Year 1 on the 'transport' theme. I know 'Morningtown Ride' (about trains) but am otherwise a bit stumped. If you know any, please do share. I'm an LSA. Thanks!

I just want some songs for those many odd moments when you've got a few minutes before play, etc. I sing with the cildren a lot, but my mind has gone blank for topc-related songs.

Flanders and Swann - "A Transport of Delight" - I will link to it on youtube when I am on the pc not my phone.

YOu may or may not like Barney but some of his songs are really nice. There's a lovely one called something like "We are flying on an aeroplane".

Mine love it. So do I

Runaway train
Toot toot, chugga chugga big red car

titchy · 25/04/2012 17:05

The Trumpton theme tune - or perhaps the Half Man Half biscuit version Blush

LeeCoakley · 25/04/2012 17:08

The day I went to sea
Two little men in a flying saucer
Riding my bike

I'm trying to think of the other songs on a cassette my children had called "Travelling songs".

WowOoo · 25/04/2012 18:08

I was thinking of the Trumpton song also. Now have the naughty but funny Half Man half biscuit version stuck in my head.
Thanks titchy!

I like driving in my car by Madness. ? Am sure that's suitable

thegreylady · 25/04/2012 20:40

there is a song where the chorus is;
'Broom broom give me some room
The tractor's coming through'
It's on a children's song cd so should be findable

jubilee10 · 25/04/2012 20:51

Chitty Chitty bang bang
Yellow submarine

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 25/04/2012 20:59

Big Red Bus
Twinkle Twinkle Traffic Lights (sort of about transport)
Big Ship Sails

Fishandjam · 25/04/2012 20:59

Ooh, YY to "Transport of Delight". It's the one which sings about the big six-wheeler, scarlet painted, London Transport, diesel engined, 97 horsepower omnibus! You could teach them a little bit about the history of the Routemaster as well.

Chateauneuf · 25/04/2012 21:00

What's that one that goes "Down at the station, early in the morning, see the little puffer trains all in a row...?" There is a version that has that as the first verse, then second verse "Down at the harbour, early in the morning, see the little tugboats all in a row", and a third verse to do with tractors on a farm, but I can't remember all the words...

Chateauneuf · 25/04/2012 21:02

Aha, here's a version - station, airport and harbour - link

DeWe · 25/04/2012 21:37

There's the train song from Camberwick Green.
"Over bridges under bridges to our destination.
Riding through the countriside there so much to be seen.
Passengers waving as we steam through a station
Stoke up fireman the signal is at green.
Time flies by when I'm a riding of a train
I ride on the footplate there and back again."

Or something like that.

MrsMellowDrummer · 25/04/2012 22:16

Zoom zoom zoom, we're going to the moon

Bouncing up and down on a big red tractor

qo · 25/04/2012 22:17

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/04/2012 12:30

Just reread OP. Maybe not for year 1.

PastSellByDate · 26/04/2012 13:03

Little Red Caboose

Lots of great hand motions and the kids can do a conga to it:

GeorgianMumto5 · 26/04/2012 19:13

Thanks everyone! Much appreciated. I always get Flanders and Swann mixed up with that singing duo on the Armstrong and Miller Show!

Ooh, I love 'Little Red Caboose' - learned it in America (where they know what a caboose is).
