Deep breaths. There is nothing you can do about it right now so try to relax, have a glass of wine and rest. The decision is already made.

Your son is sure to do well where ever he goes and make lots of friends

Save your energy for things you can do something about

GeorgesMum2008 · 22/04/2012 21:39

Thankyou! Good points, out of wine lol. I am shaking how silly I haven't felt like this since I was waiting for my final uni results... Just so scared it's going to be hard with childcare/transport to school etc if he doesn't get any of my preferences... Jeeez who'd have thought having a child would be so stressful?!

OP posts:
clam · 22/04/2012 21:49

And then you do it all again for secondary!!
Which I'm afraid is even worse!

sunnyday123 · 22/04/2012 23:28

sunnyday123 · 23/04/2012 07:35

how did you get on?!!!! 10.5 hours for me :)

curiousparent · 23/04/2012 07:38

OMG Sunny anyone would think we spend our entire life in this section of MN Grin. I was also wondering if the OP had her result?

My and DH were saying last night that we feel for us it could be any of the 3!!!

Good luck all.

sunnyday123 · 23/04/2012 07:48

I know! DH and my 2DDs think i've lost the plot - i'm actually on this whilst they're eating their breakfast and getting ready for school Grin

I'm starting to panic I may not get ANY of my 3!!! I listed 2 schools close to DD1s for practical reasons (but as we are out of catchment for hers, we are also far from them).

My 2nd and 3rd are never oversubscribed even though they're good schools so i would have to be majorly unlucky to get none!

Mine go live at 6pm so i shall keep you posted! Would you be happy with your 3rd choice?

I guess you will be stalking your postman up the street! oooooh the stress!

curiousparent · 23/04/2012 08:37

I am at exactly the same stage! I have just text my DH and said I'm worried that they will say they didn't receive our application or that we won't get any of them.....

3rd would be 'ok' but I would really prefer 2nd, or 1st and then 3rd.

What about you? Would you be ok with 3rd? What would that mean logistically? Is school 2 the 'blue' school? Is school 3 as easy to get to as 2.

Sooo hope you get 1st though - for us it is not so much of a hassle this time as it is the first to go into Primary, 3 years time will be the real tester Grin.

Good luck

sunnyday123 · 23/04/2012 09:41

2nd choice is easier and is the blue school! i have friends with children there who can help me out if I get stuck and who have offered to 'hang on' to dd2 if im late getting to the school to collect etc. DD2 also has 2 very good friends there and 1 friend who is starting the single reception class too so not too bad.

3rd choice is more difficult to get to and i don't really know many there - 1 or 2 - not sure why i picked it now really!! Its a fab school though so couldn't complain. DD2 ok with it as it has a swimming pool!

Just been into school to ask if I could make an appointment with head for today or tomorrow as im in work the rest of the week and the clerk said he had already told her this morning that he wouldn't meet any parents til next week!

Im fuming as i didnt want to go all week without having spoken to school plus i wanted to personally show him all the 'fraud' info i have. Once i have my 'no' im going to write a very strongly worded email i think!

Tak3n · 23/04/2012 10:58

Just prepare yourself, after spending all morning trying to get hold of our LEA, we got our 3rd choice. Finally got through after 176 redials (according to my phone) she said she had never seen such a high birthyear....

this is Norfolk, so I guess that means it will probaly be national

GeorgesMum2008 · 23/04/2012 11:04

I got my first place!! Absolutely delighted, and very very unexpected. 2nd place would have been "ok" and 3rd was actually my favourite but too far away really.

I'm a single parent and so I now have loads to sort out regarding after school clubs/childminders etc, but cannot complain, we have been so lucky.

I re-read my application and cringed at the a* kissing, guess it worked!

OP posts:
curiousparent · 23/04/2012 11:13

Ok so we got first place. I am happy about that - although we had subsequently decided that 2nd place was our new first - if that makes any sense Confused.

We can apply to second now if we want, but we're not really sure what to do?

I think birthrate around here must be lower than last year as according to the booklet that we got only 1 person is on the wait list that we got into and there are normally more people waiting. I also notice other schools who have previously been oversubscribed have a couple of places. I guess a lot of people were put off applying because it can be difficult to get into and they say that sometimes happens.

Well done all who got what they want and hope others eventually get what they want if they haven't yet.

sunny keeping everything crossed for you. x

well done everyone! Im oh so very Envy of you all!

curious you seem okay then with first choice then? It must have been a good school for you to have it as first choice!

Don't go worrying about your sibling off my experience though as my SIL is a non catholic in another town and her RC school lets in non catholics every year and always has done - not all areas see the massive increase that my school as. Also i think the reason DDs primary as so busy is more to do with the associated high school. There are 2 high schools in town, one community and one RC. The community has become huge as a result of 2 schools amalgamating. I think people are deliberately choosing to baptise their children RC for the RC high school which is smaller and has better results. (Baptising your kids RC is very easy to do here, no church attendance, reference or anything).

Also there are a few RC schools near me which give priority to all siblings (inc non catchment and in some cases non RC). What does their policy say?

You could always ask to go on the waiting list for your 2nd choice and then decide if and when a place becomes free. As you seem fairly positive about the result, it means you can wait without too much pressure which is a nice position to be in! :)

Not long to go for me - i'm more hoping for 2nd choice now! Thhe worst thing is my DD2 has swimming lessons at 2.30pm, and then DD1 has her swimming lesson at 5pm!!! How on earth am i going to concentrate at 5pm!!! The results are at 6pm and i wont get home from swimming til 5.45!!!! I had thought about not going but think my DH will divorce my through my OTT worrying!

Keep you posted! :)

Tak3n · 23/04/2012 12:43

@ sunnyday I was told 5pm but our email in Norfolk arrived at about 3.50, if you have a phone with email access that will help

sunnyday123 · 23/04/2012 12:48

Thanks Tak3n! I will be home between both swimming lessons so will keep checking. Seriously i feel so sick! I haven't eaten properly all weekend and on top of the wine i think i'm feeling slightly rough! On a positive side, i hope i've lost a pound or 2 for my holiday Grin

curiousparent · 23/04/2012 13:36

it is a very good school, it is just further away than 2nd choice (but both are a drive, not possible to walk). However, the school we have been allocated currently feeds through to a better high school than if we change to 2nd choice (I know this policy could change).

Both have a catchment first, sibling next policy so either could end up with us in your situation Hmm. Our booklet we got through with the allocation letter says that to go on a waiting list for another school you need to decline your current offer and go into round 2 of allocations on 08 May. (They do say that if you didn't receive your 1st or 2nd place you are automatically on that list). I will have to find out if that is correct as I don't want to give up current school and then miss out on the other one!

Do your schools prioritise your faith applications based upon attendance at all?
Ours has a 3 tier category, so lowest is baptised with attendance now and again at the main festivals, next is baptised with attendance at least once a month and top tier is attendance a minimum of twice a month and at the heart of the church.

I will keep checking back for your news :)

sunnyday123 · 23/04/2012 16:33

That sounds weird that you have to decline your first choice? Think i'd ask one of the experts to check that!

DDs school is basically:
RC in care
RC in parish by distance
RC siblings not in parish
etc

There is no reference to attending church at all and to be honest hardly anyone i know goes, other than to school events. We go regularly anyway as dd1 is in rainbows but church attendance carries no weight. If your does, maybe you should go to church when applying for your sibling (if not going already) so you are top of the sibling category Grin!

Just about to take dd1 to swimming lessons - was going to take phone with me but i should be back by 6pm and don't want to burst into tears in a full swimming baths! Suspense killing me though.......

I feel sick everytime i log onto e-admissions and the page refreshes :(

curiousparent · 23/04/2012 16:50

I saw you had posted then and thought you had heard!

We go once a month anyway to the family service that they do. Although gutted as vicar leaves soon and they do such a lovely family service :(

Continuing to hope for you..........

sunnyday123 · 23/04/2012 18:07

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!

WE GOT FIRST CHOICE!!!!! My goodness i'm in shock and tears!! :)

My DDs were with me when i logged on and so DD1 was running around happy but DD2 burst into tears saying she doesn't want to go!!!! Think i prepared her for 2 schools too much!!!

I'm so happy now but i also feel in shock! My mate who lives 2 miles further also got in so presume it not an error!!!!!

I'm also so embarrassed that i burst into tears in school this morning when speaking to the clerk about it - oh the shame Blush

Thanks everyone for all your support - its given me loads to focus on!!!

Good luck to those waiting! x

shelley72 · 23/04/2012 18:16

yay! well done you - what a relief. this calls for more Wine i think!!!

curiousparent · 23/04/2012 18:49
