Not Offered A Primary School Place At All!!

So, letter arrives from council this morning. We had put down two preferred schools - we are within catchment for both (three catchment areas overlap where we live).
We weren't offered a place at either of them, nor were we offered a place at any other school - at all.
The letter said we have to wait until after all the acceptance forms have been received and then we will find out whether we have a place after all or whether we have moved up the waiting lists!
Included with the letter was a list of 20 over-subscribed schools in the borough (including our two chosen schools) and numbers of children on waiting lists. Our 1st choice school has 95 Shock waiting and our 2nd choice 48. All well and fine if we are in place 1 or 2 on the list, what if we are 56th or something. ARGH!
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? If so, what was the eventual outcome?
To think, a week ago I was utterly unconcerned about school admissions and thought people were getting their knickers in a knot over nothing!! Blush That's a lesson learned then.

My sympathies... I'm not in lewisham, but haringey. 4 nearest schools 0.3 miles or less from us. Put 6 choices down. No school place offered at all. It's so upsetting. I'll keep fingers crossed for everyone in this situation.

We got our offers yesterday and like yourselves got offered nothing. We put down our 5 local primaries and got 5 "not offered". Admissions have told us where our son is on the waiting lists and haven't indicated that we have been offered a place elsewhere.......we found out via email and I am assuming that if an offer had been made elsewhere we would have had it on the email? Interestingly our "letter" has yet to arrive yet all our friends received their offers via post on Thurs!!!
We too seem to be in a black hole - we would have got into most of the schools last year but because of high sibling numbers and children born at the same time we are completely screwed. There is always the private route to explore but I feel quite angry that we have to consider this and think we have the right to be accepted at a local school!
We are 9th on our first choice school and closest school & 13th & 19th on two others - we are hoping that with the acceptances/rejections by 11th May we may have a place - has this happened to anyone else?

OzBrit and Ren10 Sympathies!

Hodel and OriginalPranksta Any update?

Even though the deadline for accepting and declining places is not till May 2nd, the LA has told us our 'current' places on waiting lists. 9th on the school we thought would be a 'shoo-in', 30th on a very popular outstanding school and 38th on two schools. I don't think that's a good chance to be honest! There was one other school (faith school), which because they run their own admissions, I have no idea where we stand on their wait list though I personally took in the waiting list form last Tuesday.

My immediate neighbour texted me today to say that she has found out a friend who lives in a road quite a lot further than me from the school is 4th of the wait list! I was surprised as I had discounted the faith school because it is a good school (so thought it would be too popular), only has one form entry and on the 'reject' letter, only 8 got in without any church connections so I thought we would be far, far down on the wait list. So I am calling them on Monday to find out where we are on their wait list. Fingers crossed

Also seeing quite a few private schools next week as we are exploring all options! Good luck all.
