My DCs are in R and Yr 2. My eldest is doing very well all round back lacks confidence with Maths and my youngest is (early days) doing OK but young in the year. I want to be more involved in what they are learning and support them at home. I don't have much of a clue from school as both just say they are not doing much ! Obviously they are but you know what children are like. I was thinking of sitting and doing a bit of maths and literacy with them every day. Something based around games, so for example, I draw an apple tree and get them to add/take away apples for maths (harder sums for my eldest and basic number recogniton for my youngest). Then maybe writing shopping lists for the older one and getting the younger one to find the letters. It has to be something I can do daily but for no more than 30 minutes and with them both at the same time.
So, what is the best books to explain what a child in foundation should be doing and then a child in KS1 etc. Are there any websites/books to suggest games I could play that I could adjust to their ages and capabilities.
I am not trying to do the schools job - they are fab
but my parents had zilch interest in my schooling and I want to be different.
