When does council funding for nursery start? (Scotland)

Have been told that DS, born March 2009, is eligible for council funded place at nursery from September this year. Friends DS was born 2 months earlier and got council funding from January.

Is this right? Should DS be getting funding from Easter onwards? Or are there only 2 points in the year from which you get funding applied?

It must depend on the area as children here are currently starting just after their 3rd birthday rather than from the start of the next term. Prior to that there were separate intakes (Jan, March and August I think) e.g. dd and ds were 3 in October and November and had to wait until January to start nursery. It changed recently though and if they were of nursery age now they would have been able to start the day after they turned 3.

What local authority are you in and is it the same as your friend? Have you checked the local authority website to see what it says?

It depends on your area but should be the term after th 3rd birthday ie from april. However if you intend to use a council nursery you might find that they dont have any places until the beginning of the next school year ie the august. If you use a private nursery setting you should get some funding from the april but you will need to check with your council
