Primary School Waiting List Query

We did not get our first choice primary school and I am bitterly disappointed. From what I have read on other posts I think its unlikely we will win an appeal but if we want to get on the waiting list for our first choice school who do we contact? The preferred school, the LEA or babock admissions service. Also who do we contact to find out why we did not get our first choice. Any advice much appreciated

Most LEAs will automatically put you on the wait list for any school you listed as a higher preference then the school offered. The LEA hold the wait lists for community and I think also VA and VC schools as well, the information about it all should be on the letter you will receive shortly or you can call the LEA in the morning to find out how they do things. Schools don't have anything to do with admissions and wait lists any more, think it was last year it changed so even VA and VC schools had admissions administrated by the LEA so there is little point in calling the school.
You probably wont be able to find out where you are on the waiting list for a couple of weeks as it takes time for them to compile the lists as people accept and decline their offered places.

thanks roadkillbunny for advice I think I need to get over the shock as I really thought we would get our 1st choice and I need to wait for the letter before we decide as we may decide to defer his place till next year as he is not 5 until June next year and if we are lucky a waiting list place will appear
