Primary schools in Winchester

Our family is planning to relocate to Winchester this summer and are looking at primary schools for our children who will be moving into years 2 & 5. Many of the popular primary schools are full making it unlikely we'll get places for both children. So we are looking at Olivers Battery, Stanmore and Highcliffe schools where places are more likely to be available. If you have any experience of these schools I would appreciate some local feedback about them.

Hi Aimee
Would you consider a short drive out of Winchester? My children attend Owslebury Primary School, which is off the Morestead Road about 8 mins' drive from Highcliffe. (Marwell Zoo is at the far end of the village) It's a very happy, friendly village school with a fab Head and wonderful teachers. My children are in Years 1, 3 and 5 and I'm really happy with everything about their education - academic, friendships and extra curricula opportunities. The school has the most enormous playing field and beautiful views across the South Downs to Winchester. Take a look at www.owsleburyprimary.co.uk. There is a video, but it takes a while to load. Would thoroughly recommend it.

Yes, you often find that in the surrounding villages sought after, oversubsribed schools have places in year 2/ 3 and over because a fair proportion go private then.
