Couple more questions about L6 SATs

  1. Does a school have to formally register a child for a L6 paper?
  2. If so, is there a certain date by which time applicatins have to be in, or could a school decide on the day that a child should sit a L6?

Yes, they would have had to register them by March 23rd.

Shock That seems mighty early?! What about the secure/high L5 child who really knuckles down and could sit a L6 paper but hasn't been entered? Could they still be teacher assessed as L6?

A secure/high 5 child hasn't time now to do anything more than scrape a 6c, imo - which isn't what the test is for. Yes they could still be teacher assessed at L6, but they would be unlikely to be working securely at level 6 between now and the end of May.

So you are saying that a child would only be entered if they were going to get a 6b?

I am here Smile - no, but a really secure 6c would take more than just a few weeks. You would be teaching a completely different curriculum - KS3 - for one thing. It takes time.

Now I am confused; so the kids at my DC's school who are being entered, none of them have tutors etc and I am guessing that they haven't been taught the KS3 curriculum in normal lessons - my DC sits alongside them - so does one just assume that they are naturally v. good at comprehension or maths??

No - that's not to say a Y6 teacher can't teach the KS3 curriculum - I've done it myself - or that they shouldn't be. But to do so, and do it properly, would take more than a few short weeks.
