V small school trousres

Ok so my baby, ds2, has had his place at school confirmed and is starting in sept ( still getting my head around that one) . he is v. small and wears 2-3 trousers, with adjustable waists, and they just fit. Can I get those sizes easily in grey school trousers, or should I grab some where I see them. Hopefully the weather means he can be in shorts when he starts, but that wont last.

He may grow, but he has only just grown out of his 18-24mth trousers, so it is unlikely ( he has a genetic disorder that predisposes him to short stature- that and short parents, he has little hope!!)

Anyone who has any experience in shorty reception children, i would be v.grateful.

School uniform shops stock tiny sizes, and M&S go down to 2-3 IIRC. My DS is now 10, and just into age 6-7 school clothes. I feel your pain. Another place to try is suit shops. They will be a bit more pricey as black or grey trousers will be for page boy outfits, but worth a look in the sales (usually summer, after all the spring weddings).
You may find shoes more of a problem, most school shoes start at size 9, my DS didn't reach that until Juniors!

Thanks, I hadnt even thought about school shoes!! He is only a size 7- oh dear. Ds1 is also small, but not AS small, so we didnt have any probs. Think he was a size8 in receptiuon, and we got some pricy startrite ones. Ds1 will be in yr3 next year and is now the grand size 10!!!

Hoepfully your school isn't too fussy about plain shoes etc. For DS who was very diddy, I got some trousers from a local huge posh school uniform shop that were very small age 3-4 with a narrow, well elasticated waist (Zecco brand I think). Nothing to stop you shortening trousers or having them shortened on a sewing machine either - sounds like it might be a useful skill. Also the Next directory do a good range of slim/small school trousers which I now use.

For us the worst thing was the school-branded PE kit, DS is STILL wearing the age 3-4 one and he's nearly 7 .

Agree with fossil - uniform will be OK but PE shorts can be a bit nightmarish. DD1 is still wearing her Reception shorts in Year 5 and is determined to keep them until she leaves primary!

Next are good for skinny waists. Their uniform is available online but not generally in shops.

My DS is still in his first size PE kit (28") in Y5, finally in the second size up in school jumper though.

Ooo, I'm coming on here to watch for tips! DS2 is also starting school in september and is also only just in age 2-3 clothes (long standing problems with reflux and multiple allergies mean he doesn't put on weight easily and is very restricted in his diet, so it is difficult finding a high calorie diet for him). DS2 is also in size 6.5 shoes, so I'm guessing he must be almost exactly the same size as your ds2, miossmapp (I'm hoping that being small there will be a career for him as a formula 1 driver, so he can keep us all in our old age ).

My son is only a little dot and starting school soon. Normally his aged 2-3 trousers are roomy to say the least - after some shopping around I've found M&S trousers to be the best fit - adjustable waist and I've only had to take them up a little. We've had no problem with school shoes - he's a 7 and we had lots of choice at Jones and a local, independent shop.

OLdmothers- your ds sounds exactly the same size, yes formula 1 sounds a good career, he is quite fast on his balance bike, maybe thats a good sign!!

My Y1 ds is still in 2-3 trousers - he wears the M&S ones too, can recommend them.

Never had a problem with school shoes, tbh - he is only just a size 9, and we just bought Clarks black ones when he was a size 7/8.

I would definitely buy them when you see them in the right size - little sizes always sell out towards the end of the summer. And I'm sure you won't have a problem with shoes. My ds has extremely skinny feet and at age 2 the only shoes we could get in narrow widths were school style navy shoes (size 5 onwards IIRC) but this wasn't in Clarks, but an indie shop with a range of Start Rite, Ecco etc. He did look funny...!

Start Rite or Ecco shoes are also a good purchase, so much better quality than Clarks and smarter, too, not so trainer-y looking (boys that is, think girls range is better...)

Ds2 is on year 2 now and is finally in age 4 trousers. V skinny as well. Can definitely recommend m and s (we got age 3 for reception but still shortened them, well granny dis).

Also got him some age 4 debenhams ones this year with a clasp and a belt tho he didn't like the belt.

Shorts are much easier - he still wears his age 3 ones ( when he was in reception they were pretty much 3/4 lefty.

Pe kit was the hardest - in the end I just put him in some age 2 bhs jogging bottoms

Oooh yes, belts - bought my ds an old-fashioned snake belt off Amazon and it helped a lot.

Hmm belts, he wears those now with some hand me down jeans, but only on home days. Can your dcs manage the belts ok in school, have visions of him not doing it back up and his trousers falling down all day- not that he would worry about that!!

size 3-4 asda trouserrs with an adjustable waist band- but will need to be taken up 3 inches. or school unifom shops stock size 2 trousers which fit skinny boys waists. my 3.9 y old has just grown into size 2-3 trousers and age 2 school trousers and the age 3-4 trousers that I took up for dd, though they are a bit loose around the middle. (girls trousers were too shaped to take up)

I have yet to attempt to get school shoes the right size.

That's why we bought the snake belt - easy to do up!
