Every day is mufti day for us at primary school!

Why? Find that DS gets very excited about it and gets dressed more quickly without being nagged

Suits us - no uniform any day.

What was the problem?

Mufti = no problem.

Dressing up day = major PITA

Non-uniform is not a problem at all. It's easier than uniform as the kids are excited about doing something different and get dressed quicker.

Oh, yes, any form of dressing up - nightmare.
Thank goodness for year 6 and the end of such stuff!

Like others said - non uniform = great... easy way for the school to fundraise, enjoyed by all the dc and no hassle for parents or staff.
Dressing up day = nightmare. Hate them, although accept it's a passage you have to go through when you have children in Infants.

Does no one else have DCs that get extremely upset at mufti days? After much discussion, upset and tantrums, DS eventually wore his uniform to school on mufti days in ks1. He has grown put of it and is now delighted to go in as a cricketer.

Used to be vaguely stressful as totally fashion disinterested DD1 would have a slight panic over what to wear so as not to get teased. She didn't really fit either adult or kids clothes at 10 and hated jeans so it was always a bit of a scrat.

At 14 she has amassed a collection of leggings and long tops which are comfortable and fashionable enough to escape comment. If its warm she has a shortish denim skirt. (also she's an absolutely standard size 12, so shopping has ceaced being a nightmare).

DD2 just does fashion and people and all those confusing things. She's up and dressed on mufti days long before I've remembered it's non uniform.

Now dressing up with no warning, Grrrr. I'm fairly art and can sew, but I do need warning.

It is not difficult or stressful. They are just clothes! Certainly not exciting - by 8 the novelty has worn off for DS.
Money goes to house charities so of course we support them

It depends on the child.
DGS2 would freak out and worry so much about it, very sad and cod never ever see it as a treat.
He lived with (self-imposed) rules about how life should be and school = uniform as far as he was concerned.
He finally decided that a certain Tshirt was acceptable, and then that was the only thing he would wear!
He's growing out of this but I felt so sorry for him and poor DD, who had to do all the negotiating
Can I add he is one of the nicest, kindest people I know with a heart of gold and a terrific sense of humour?

I totally agree dressing up days are PITA, but teachers feel the same way too. We have to find costumes for ourselves. We don't do it to be awkward. We do it to make meaningful, exciting and memorable learning experiences for your children. My DD can still talk (at great length ) about WWII and Greeks, as she had enactment days - she's not as hot on Romans and she spend just as long studying them, but no dressing up.
