So registered ds(5) in January at local school. At that point me and dp had just split up I was living at my mums 2 mins away. Ds was splitting his week between us.

I got a 1 bed flat 7 miles away at the beginning of march which is on a short term let till I get something in old village. But now I'm out of the catchment area.

Now iv heard school is terribly over subscribed and parents are not getting places. So now I'm confused and worried. Can the school remove my child even though he spends half the week with his dad (in catchment area) and half with me???

Any advice would be lovely!

If I understand your post correctly your son is already attending the school. If that is the case then it does not matter where you now live, you are entitled to that place on the basis that it was offered to you. The school cannot take the place from you. Morally whilst you are not in the village in the short term, you have every intention of returning, so I think your have no reason to be worried.

If however your son is not currently in school but scheduled to start in September then it is complicated and revolves around dates and where your son lives for the majority of the school week.
