Yr 2 not wanting to go to school anymore

My son who has just turned 7, is upset by writing. He says they have to 'write all day long'. He got quite upset this evening over doing his spellings, which he's normally ok with, started crying saying he'd missed a clue to a riddle (they've been writing all these riddles apparently.

At parent's evening I noticed, although he's apparently doing fine, there were lots of comments like "SPEED UP" not very many positive ones. I thought it was a bit of a shame.

Is anyone else noticing this at the moment, especially in Yr 2? I know they have SATs coming up. Will it get better in year 3?

Does he have problems with his writing, holding a pen? Have him examined by a specialist. He may need help learning how to write properly.

(In the olden days A Level students had to write at the speed of light. I don't know what it's like these days. But it's worth getting writing down pat at an early age.)

Hi

Just wanted to say my dd is very 'tired' of school at the moment. Year 2 is so different from Year 1, so much more is expected and she is beginning to feel a bit overwhelmed by it all.

Unfortunately our dd is playing catchup, as she only started at this school in September. At parents evening, we were told she is doing well, but really needs to work faster!!!

Thank goodness it is nearly the holidays, I am trying not to worry too much just at the moment, I am sure they will be fine after the break.

Have a chat to the teacher. I think they would want to know if he is crying over writing at home/ feeling pressured. He shouldn't be feeling so stressed in Year 2 and teachers do need to be made aware.
