Good schools in and around Glasgow

I have 2 kids (6 and 10) and will be moving to Glasgow in a few months. Can someone pleas advise me on the best (but affordable) places to live, with good primary schools. I worry a lot for my children as they are of ethnic minority, and the elder one has expeienced bullying at school before.

Any ides?

When I asked that question, the majority told me that East Renfrewshire has the best schools around Glasgow (Giffnock, Clarkston, Newton Mearns, Busby).
They also mentioned Milgavie and Bearsden. And Lenzie.
Are you moving up from England of from another part of Scotland?

Depends on what your budget is. Bearsden, Milngavie, East Renfrewhire have good schools but with house prices that reflect that.

Within Glasgow, there are good schools and bad. The schools in the West End have good reputations.

On the Southside, Shawlands,Newlands and Glendale Primaries have good reputations - and have quite an ethnic mix. Glendale, for example, has over 60% ethnic minorities (majority Pakistani Muslim, but also Sikhs, Polish, Arab, Russian, Moroccan...). It is also very strong on dealing with bullying and was instrumental in developing Glasgow's Anti-racism in schools policy.

Shawlands Academy also has a good reputation (and will be a SRU funded Rugby Academy next year) - needs a placing request fom Glendale but they've always been granted.

Forgot to mention that the "problem" with Glendale (which is in Pollokshields) is that it is currently bursting at the seams. However, given the high number of Pakistani families, there is some movement so places do open up (according to the head teacher when I asked her recently on behalf of a friend).
