Level 4 maths paper - just curious...

As our school doesn't give out levels other than in years 2 and 6. DS says he did a Level 4 maths test, and scored 49 out of 55. Any idea what level he would be? Thanks.

Do level 4 maths papers exist? Hmm I thought they were L2, L3, L2-3, L3-5 but I may be wrong.

Exactly - he says it says level 4 on front. Smile

Did it have a 4 on the front, in which case it would be a year 4 optional SATs paper

Might he be mistaken it for a year 4 test, which have a big 4 on the front? It would give a level 4 for that score if it is the higher year 4 paper (can't remember the top sub-level it tests for sorry!).

It could also have been a part of a levelled maths scheme, where the progression of levels doesn't really relate to the NC level descriptors.

Ah, that's probably it. Thanks - know it's not important, but just being nosy, as it's hard to judge how he is progressing.
