i know we find out on 20th April, but how and when do we find out our allocations? we have used the online process, so we have to log on to the LA at midnight, or do they send an email / letter through? it seems like its been such a long wait from january and the worry of it all is making me feel quite ill!

I got an e-mail informing me of my DD1's secondary place from the same LA as DD3's primary for September.

Scholes34 · 05/03/2012 13:33

Depends on how you asked to be informed. We applied for DS2's secondary place on line, but had asked for a letter confirming the place to be sent to us (except we'd forgotten this and everyone else was getting e-mails except us! Didn't panic tooooo much.)

When we got ours (applied online for reception) we were told it would be sent by email after 4pm, for dd1 it didn't come through until 6:30, after much refreshing. Dd2 came about 4:15. Letter came in post the next morning.

Think they press send then nip out to the pub sharpish to prepare themselves for the next day, sending sibling offers first just in case someone forgets their purse and has to pop back, knowing it is the first timers who will be ringing every 5 mins until the next morning!! Just sit back and wait for your friends to txt, add 20 mins then check online!

thanks will do - though other parents at nursery are all under a different LA (we are on the border) and so they may get told at a different time. its going to be a stressful day waiting - not to mention the monday after when we try and get him on the waiting list, as i am pretty sure we wont get our 1st or 2nd choice Sad.

We get letters sent out on 23rd April so i'm gearing myself up for 25th April. All very nerve wracking - I am trying so hard to focus on it being ages away yet.

Good luck shelley (and of course all others) :)

sunnyday123 · 08/03/2012 23:31

our go live online on the evening of 23rd april- or are posted that day depending on how you apply - i did online to get 2 days earlier!

AngelEyes46 · 09/03/2012 00:31

For me, it was letters sent out on the Friday - receiving them on the SATURDAY (which was a nightmare). I phoned my priest on the Sat morning to ask. Try not to worry too much as there will be lots of people that you can empathise with (although i know it's really easy to say)

3duracellbunnies · 09/03/2012 06:47

Actually thinking about it I am sure it came through on my phone, which is probably a good way if you can get e-mail alerts, it saves you sitting by the computer all the time. We were on our way home from school so might even have been just before 4. You could try contacting the LA or looking on website to find out when they send it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't want people calling that day, wait until the initial shock and anger has passed. I will still picture them sitting in the pub! If it is any consolation it is generally less stressful second time around. Good luck to you all.

hels71 · 09/03/2012 07:38

I applied online and it said that everyone was contacted by post, there would be no e mails even if you applied online. Letters posted 20th April arriving 21st (hopefully!!!)

shelley72 · 09/03/2012 07:53

have just checked and its the same as you hels71 - although we applied online we will get a letter posted to us on the 20th. nothing like prolonging the agony! lots of Wine needed for friday night then!

It varies from LA to LA. Ours sent an email to those who had submitted an online application, a friend had to wait for the post (was sent second class on the Thursday and she never received until Monday!) and another friend had to log onto the LA website and the allocations were posted there.

I believe that primary allocations are being standardised over the next few years (i.e. notifications will be on the same day for the whole of England, which it currently is not), but I'm not sure whether the way parents are notified will be standardised too.
