Why can't I find out my ds's school place when everyone else does?

In short:
I have applied to a different authority for my top two choices for ds's reception place to the one I live in (even though it's just over the road.) However, whilst that authority will release the results on APril 16th my local LEA will tell us on the 23rd even though we've applied to the other one. Are you keeping up?
It's annoying as if we have a place at school no 2 then we won't know for a week which wouldn't normally be a problem but in trying to sort childcare out there is only one possibility for a childminder and if everyone else finds out before us then she may get snapped up and I'll be stuck. I can't afford to pay out the month's non returnab;e deposit on the off chance we get the second place. OUr LEA (Bham) has been unhelpful whilst the other one (Dudley) says that there's not much they can do. Hmph. Anyone experiemced this?

I'm afraid there isn't anything you can do about that. Both LAs are following the current rules correctly. From 2014 there will be a national offer day for primary schools but that doesn't help you.

Well we live in Hertfordshire,
(Herts is mostly 2 teir system, where as Beds is mostly 3 tier)
My sons go to school in Bedfordshire, my eldest is due to start High school in September and we found out which school he was allocated (Beds), the same day as every one else found out which Herts secondary school their child was going too.
Id call/keep calling your Admissions team.
Or prehaps the school?
