I was told off hand by my LO's teacher that he is 140 in spelling, but is this good, bad or average?? Not sure why she told me this with no context!

Ask her.

No idea, sorry.

Did you mishear and maybe she said that in spelling he was "a handful and naughty" [disclaimer: joke have had a glass of Wine] Wink

Hopefully there's not 141 in his year!! ;)

Dustinthewind · 02/03/2012 21:07

When I test my lot, they get a raw score and then you match it to their age and get a standardised score. 100 means dead average. Six of mine tested with a SS of 141+ which means they are very good spellers.
It might be that, but you'd need to ask the teacher.

But surely you know if your child is a good speller or not? Hmm

Love conorsrockers' response...! :)
Do ask her, I'm racking my brain as to what it could mean!

They get an A* at Twitter?

Ha ha. It's just he's slightly SEN and this comment was tagged on to a conversation, then she was off. Hard to get hold of her so thought I'd check it out with mumsnetters!!

Depends what his sn are, he might still be a terrific speller. You know if he is or not, so why so coy?

Nope dust I don't because our school is utterly crap in giving feedback on anything.

We finally have a parent's evening in a few weeks so obviously I'll ask then. I know my LO is smart so that's why when the teacher said suddenly said 'but he's a 140' to a consultant brought in to talk about DS's other issues I thought; does this mean surprisingly below expected? Since she was off before the meeting finished and haven't seen her since (he has 3 teachers in a week!)I never had the chance to explore. Obviously it doesn't so glad about that.
