Reception query

Yesterday dgs [5] said that he and 3 others had been taken to 'the room where the teachers drink their tea'.They were asked to write some words,do some sums and asked some questions! Dgs was asked if he knew the days of the week and the names the young of various animals.He said the teacher then gave him a chocolate biscuit and told him he was a very good boy and had answered everything correctly.They were then returned to class-no others were taken out.What do you think was going on.No one is worried-he is a bright,happy little boy who loves school and has lots of friends.Dd was curious so I said I'd ask on here.TIA

No idea! Some kind of inspection? Was it the teacher or someone new who asked the questions?

Kids are not the best witnesses. The reality may have been different ie he may have seen a chocolate biscuit but not had one. Just don't present your ds recount as fact.

It was the regular reception teacher who has been in the school for a long time.All the way through my op I used the words 'he said' though I cannot imagine he would make it up.The little girl who was one of the others gave exactly the same account fwiw.

Sounds like she's doing some kind of assessment, probably just for her own information and the staffroom may well be the only quiet space in the school. I'm often asked to work in the staffroom because there isn't anywhere else. Other children may have done it at other times. Children in Reception don't always notice things which don't concern them.

Maybe she does a few children each day. I reckon the best person to ask is the teacher. But it doesn't sound like it's worth worrying about.

OMG- not q chocolate biscuit! Complain to the governors!

I think it sounds like an assessment - and I also suspect this is being done to more than just your child.

I'd ask about it - either next time you can at school - or at the next parent/ teacher meeting. But I wouldn't worry about it.

No one is worried.
No one minded the chocolate biscuit .
He was in a group of 4 not alone.
He is my grandson not my son.
This was just mild curiosity on my part.
Thank you for your help.I just asked my friend who is a recently retired reception teacher and she says it was an assessment for the end of EYC and readiness for KS1.
