Hi,
Had parents evening last night and was given DS scores for the Early Learning Goals. He isn't 5 until March and is in Reception.
Can anyone give me any info on these scores? I know they can score between 1-9 and that they don't necessarily have to do them in order but I was a bit concerned that a couple of his scores have actually gone down compared to what he was scored at the Day Nursery he attended (his key worker there was actually a qualified Primary School Teacher too).
What score is actually expected of them on average by the time they complete reception?
Anything else I should know about?
Thanks

The EY learning goal scores don't matter. They are simply a box ticking exercise not an indicator of later educational achievement.

I know at the time it seems very important but at your child's age, simply enjoying attending school and being interested in learning are sufficient.
Children progress in different ways and very few do so in the linear fashion that these type of assessments would like.
Keep your chin up and trust your instincts, if you have concerns then speak to the teacher.

The school will have done their own assessment - so they may have marked your DS lower than previously as there are some things they've just not seen him do yet (IIRC the child has to complete the points independently for them to "count" ).

the "average" child will obtain 5-6 in each area at the end of Reception.

As PP says, children do not make progress in a nice linear fashion and I wouldn't worry too much about your child's exact scores as long as he is progressing.
