I need some advice. I registered my ds to a private school and didnt get past the waiting list for reception 2011. I therefore sent him to a state school.

We now have got his place in the private school for year 1 and paid for the registration (a whopping £3000) late last year. BUT, he is doing really really well in the state school. He absolutely loves his school, the teachers, his friends and is devastated every time we tell him he would be moving to a new school in Year 1. Since he is doing so well, I dont really want to move him to a private school anymore but wondered if there was any way I could get the registration fee back. Its a huge amount and much as I know its our fault to have changed our mind, I could do with some of that money coming back.

Any advice ??

What do the conditions say about refunds?

Don't know about the registration fee, but you ought to check how much notice you have to give to withdraw from the school - otherwise you might end up having to pay a term's fees too ...

oh yummum what redsky says is frightening. Good luck getting your money back- have no advice as no experience of private schools.

You generally lose any kind of desposit and yes - if you've accepted the place, make sure you retract asap or the more unscrupulous ones will want paying for the notice period too. Although my friend just let them whistle for the latter and hasn't been pursued by lawyers as yet.
