Does anyone know about Fielding Primary School in Ealing, West London?

I would love to hear from any Mums with first (or second) hand knowledge of Fielding Primary School in Ealing.

Though it has an ?outstanding? Ofsted report, the SAT results in past years look good but not outstanding (28.8 average point score with 84% of pupils achieving level 4 for Maths in 2009 ? no results for 2010). Does anyone here have a view on why this might be, or have anything to say about the school?s academic performance in general?

My other concern is around the expansion of the school to 1000 pupils and 4 classes in every year group. Instinctively I feel that a smaller school would be easier for a 4-year-old to settle into, but I would love to hear from any current parent who has views on this. The school is already large so I think it would be relevant to know about the experiences of current pupils/parents.

Also, if there are any Mums out there who have kids at big primary schools ? how have they found it?

Thanks so much ? I really appreciate any advice.

Dear Nxi, your message is almost a year old, but I will give some answers anyway, it might help someone else! Fielding is now rated 'good' by Ofsted, by the way. My DD attended year 4 and 5 there, just before the expansion work started. At the time (2007-2009), all the teachers my DD had were excellent. The school infrastructure was ageing and unable to accomodate the high numbers (meeting hall bursting to the seams, corridors used as strorage rooms, issues with lunch hours...). I loved the school and the teachers, the only negative was children's behaviour (and that is never mentionned by Ofsted), disruptive in class and taking way too much teachers' time! I had plenty of time to observe as I was volunteering help for reading and school trips.
