How often does your child have supply teachers?

Trying to gauge what the norm is. I realise it will vary e.g. if a teacher is on long term sick leave, but barring major illness, how much do your dc's have supply teachers? Also when they have them do they get their normal work or just muddle along?

My children have a different teacher when their one is planning- so at least half a day a week. This is the same teacher every week (one teacher covers PPA for all KS1 teachers and my children in KS2 have PE and music with a teacher who is not their usual teacher).

The only other time they have had other teachers is when their teacher is on a course.

My DH has been doing some primary supply work recently (he's a qualified teacher but his main job is secondary). Whether the children just muddle along or not depends on the quality of the cover work which has been left. Sometimes he's left very thorough, detailed cover work, and so he teaches that. Sometimes rather scant cover work is left, so he has to improvise. And one day most of the day had cover work set, but there was an hour where he was told "do something creative" and he had a ball!

He also does all that day's marking and leaves a handover sheet for the returning teacher.

I actually think like to think that the children benefit from having him for a day - as he's usually a secondary teacher he brings all sorts of different skills / tactics / ideas than their usual teacher (as I'm sure a primary teacher in a secondary setting would).

He sounds marvellous!
My OP is definitely not about supply teacher bashing as I'm sure there are loads of brilliant ones. But my dc's class seem to have so many cover teachers and it's quite disruptive, plus it must cost the school a fortune.

My DS2 has the same supply teacher every wednesday and if a teacher is off long term a supply teacher is used. If his teacher is only off for a few days then the school use the HLTA's in the class.
I don't know about my other children as they are further up their schooling. Blush
