Diiferent view on leave during term time

I have read a number of threads on here about term time leave. After an interesting chat with my 6 year old last night, I thought I'd share with you a different view.

I am not talking about the odd day of leave here and there.

I overheard my ds saying about a new best friend, and I asked him about it and asked why his old best friend was no longer his best friend, and he said 'He's never there to be a friend, mum, he's not even there this week'.

This boy had a 2 week family holiday in the autumn term, and is now having a week family holiday this term. It is independent school so perfectly acceptable from the school's point of view.

But I do think it's sad, that the friend dynamics has changed, but I also can't expect my son to not have a friend to play with during the time they are away. This half of term has only been 5 weeks in length, so the boy has missed 20% of it.

That's a lot in the life of a 5/6 year old, both for the child on leave, and the friends in the classroom.

Anyway, just food for thought and a different perspective.
