For DS, age 9 in YR5.

He knows what an MP is, I've explained about elections and parties and parliament, but I don't think I did it very well or clearly, and he absorbs written info much better.

Thanks.

dd2 has used bits from this website for a project on parliament www.parliament.uk/education/online-resources/printed-resources/

Why not take him to the Houses of Parliament? I think (but please check) that you can get free tickets if you write to your MP.

Thanks for all the ideas!

We might be able to stretch to a trip to London later in the year, but finances very tight at the moment. It's a good idea though.

DS is actually interviewing our local MP with a few of his classmates in the next couple of weeks - hence the questions. I never knew they could get us tickets to parliament!

I'll look up the links and books later. Thanks again. Smile

Try Andrew Marr's book "who's in charge".

Himalaya · 29/01/2012 09:13

Yes "who's in charge" is good. It's not by Andrew Marr - just the foreword. It's a Dorling Kindersley so very illustrated and good for dipping in to.

Oops, sorry! Blush

Thanks again - He is so excited about doing this interview and wants to be prepared!

One of the best sites around is news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/uk/the_mip_files/newsid_2826000/2826213.stm

mankyscotslass · 29/01/2012 12:33

mrz, that's brilliant, thanks. Thanks

Our MP is not going to know what hit him, being questioned by 10 YR5's - kids can spot bullshit at 100yds! Grin
