Quick poll: How many bump letters do your children get?

I'm interested to know if I was lucky with my older 2 or ds2 is unusually prone to bumps but how old is your child and how many "your child has had a bump today" letters have you had this year?

Ds1 is in y6 and gets 1 or 2 a year as a result of playing football or other chasing game.

Dd is in y4 and used to get lots in Reception when she was learning how to skip but hasn't had one since.

Ds2 is in y1 and usually averages one every 2-3 weeks but has had a bump today, yesterday and last Friday. Apparently the latest one which he did by crashing into the wall in the lunch hall (!!) is likely to end up
In a black eye.[sigh]

Very few bumped head letters for 9y DD.
However she does bring a form home at least every other week it would seem for suspected sprained ankles and wrists, and other such injuries - generally from Games lessons.

Lumiya · 24/01/2012 15:10

Ds's record is three in one day. Usually about two a week for ds and one every half term for dd.

lyinginbed · 24/01/2012 15:12

i know my daughter was sent to the school nurse yesterday and complained this morning that she hurt (she was knocked over in the playground).
Should I have received a 'bump' letter?

Almondroca · 24/01/2012 15:18

DS1 is in yr4 and he's not had one yet this year. Last year he possibly only had one and I was called up to school for that one as his tooth was loose (He's been determined to get someone out in rounders so threw himself at her leg, lol!). He possibly only ever had one a year the other years.

DS2 though had one on his first day in reception and then another two the same week...and then more during reception. He's in Y1 now and he's had two so far this year.

Hulababy · 24/01/2012 15:27

lyinginbed - only for a bumped head.

StaceymAloneForver · 24/01/2012 15:30

dd is yr 2 she doesnt get any really maybe 1 a year, ds is Reception and i get at least 2 a week.

he bumps more when he's growing (can't figure out where his legs/feet end)

crazygracieuk · 24/01/2012 16:11

Thanks for the answers guys.

DD1 started yr R in sept. For the 1st term she came home with one almost every day with no sign of injury. This term she has had two nastyish injuries and not come home with a note at all

wheredidiputit · 24/01/2012 17:44

Incase of dd1 (year 3) most days in reception.

The worst was when she did a hoilday play thing at school she was in the main hall with 6 other children for 5 days and came home with 11 'bump' letters and she was only thier in the morning Grin.

Unfortunley she takes after her mother.

DeWe · 24/01/2012 17:46

Dd1 (now in year 6) has had one only.
Dd2 (drama queen in year 3) has had 2.
Ds (in reception) has had 2 already this year. Grin

MoaningMinnieWhingesAgain · 24/01/2012 19:07

DD had 1-2 a week for the first term or so. None yet this year. They have been quite hilarious specific, as in 'DD fell over and banged into the wall while practising Dingle Dangle Scarecrow' and 'DD fell over when she and X were taking turns picking each other up. Cold compress and TLC'

ChasingSquirrels · 24/01/2012 19:10

2 boys, now yr 4 and yr 1.
In reception both probably had at least 1 a week.
DS2 in yr1 probably now gets a couple a month, I recall DS1 being similar if not more (that boy would fall over if he was just sitting still!).
DS1 in yr4 never gets them anymore, but it would have to be quite serious for him to tell anyone now so they wouldn't know about general bumps.

moosemama · 24/01/2012 19:42

We get a phonecall for head bumps.

Ds2 used to get them almost every day when he was in reception and on one memorable day managed 4 separate phonecalls in one day! Shock

By the fourth call the school secretary just waited for me to pick up and then said "Guess who?".

It has gradually reduced over the years and now he's in year 3 its roughly one every couple of weeks.

He does have hypermobile knees and ankles though, which makes him more prone to falling. (We were unaware of this when he was in reception year.)

The3Bears · 24/01/2012 19:50

Ds is in reception and has had about 10 mabye more so far! They do all run around like lunatics though at play time so it's to be expected.

Takver · 24/01/2012 19:58

Never had a letter or phonecall just for a bump, though when dd was in reception / yr 1 the teacher would pop out & tell you about any accidents. Older they just take them inside & give them an icepack (I hear about them as dd is always very communicative, but I suspect lots of parents don't).

Have had two phonecalls from school re. injuries - the first time dd was already at the medical centre being stuck back together (multiple pile up into a wall - must have been dramatic as I think every one I know who works in the school told me how much blood there was!) and the second time was recently when she fell in PE and broke her arm.

wheredidiputit · 24/01/2012 20:05

Oh and DS who doesn't start nursery until Easter has had 3 bump/head injuries and in the accident book while being in play & stay.

WhatMakesYouSay · 24/01/2012 20:05

DD, yr 1, holds the record for the most bumo letters so far this year, apparently. She averages 1 a day. Some of them I'm not convinced are actual bumps but are just the school being cautious, most of them are down to her habit of talking whilst running around (she concentrates more on the talking), and a few because her and her best mate sit with their heads really close together so quite often bump.

DS, yr 3, none for ages. Can't remember the last time he had one.

MissCoffeeNWine · 24/01/2012 20:21

DD went through two whole years at nursery then a term of Reception without a single one but has had three in the last month. They are also hilariously specific 'tried to do a backflip off the bench in the playground and hit her head on the seat' being the most memorable. Or 'wooden toy castle fell on her head from display at story time'!

lifesalongsong · 24/01/2012 20:24

I had to click on this to find out what a bump letter is. My DC have never had one in all their years at nursery and school - is it some kind of official letter?

With DD (10 yo) I had bump letters very rarely.

With DS (6yo) I have a standing arrangement with school that I'll assume that he's bumped something unless they tell me otherwise. It saves trees (but not trouser knees or my nerves).

sunnyday123 · 25/01/2012 22:34

dd1 age 6 about 1 per week!

BerylOfLaughs · 25/01/2012 22:42

Dd age 5, 1 a week!

Tmesis · 25/01/2012 22:50

DS is in Y2 and only gets a couple a year. I think it's the judo training meaning that he rarely hits his head any more Grin as the rest of him certainly gets bumped enough.

sugartongue · 26/01/2012 00:38

Ds1 never, ds2, at least once a week and a few head bumps worth of A&E trips to boot...the phone call always comes when I'm working further away from school than nOrmal!!
