Very disorganised Yr 4 DS

DS 1 is having real difficulties getting himself organised whilst at school. No matter how often we go through his timetable and check his bag, he will come back without all his books/pencil case/lunchbox etc.. He also manages to lose text books completely, meaning we have to buy additional copies. Making him pay for the new books (with his pocket money) doesn't seem to make a difference to his behaviour. The school has been very supportive and give him lots of praise when he manages to turn up to the right class with the right book. I simply don't know how to "teach" him to get more organised. Any tips?

He could join the cub scouts. Encourage him to do activities which have nothing to do with school but require some degree of planning, camping, fishing, staying the night in a tent in the garden, getting provisions before hand. Next time move the tent further and further away until the weight of forgotten provisions becomes progressively heavier and heavier to someone who has to carry them from the house to the camp site.

Forward planning can be its own reward.
