Anyone seen girls school shoes...

that cover the top of the foot and do up with velcro or a buckle?

We walk to school and dd(8) is fed up getting wet feet when it rains (and I don't blame her). I have seen brogues in Clarkes but she would rather not tie laces.

If needs be I will ask her to pick between the brogues or a pair marketed to boys but I thought I would ask in case anyone has seen any.

Could you not save a lot of money and buy a cute backpack and Wellies?
I take my dd in Wellies when it rains, she has a simple cloth bag she decorated herself with fabric pens to keep shoes/boots in

Or is she allowed to wear black boots to school?

Can't she wear wellies to school and change when she gets there? That's what a lot of children at our school do

brandrethmupp · 11/01/2012 20:49

As Mayday says - walk in wellies. Carry her shoes in the bag you bring wellies home in.

Don't start me off about girls' shoes. It is really hard to find anything that isn't an open 'mary jane' style which exposes the foot to cold and wet. The best solution I have found is wellies as suggested but sometimes you can get a t bar which gives a bit more coverage.

try again

OddBoots · 11/01/2012 21:00

Thanks for the suggestions. Wellies are an option apart from when it starts raining part way. The school don't allow boots or any kind in school or I would get her ankle boots. I think she is going to end up choosing 'boy' shoes but I will give her the options.

I have horrid memories of being bullied for the wrong shoes at primary. Perhaps consider this as well ?

DD (size 1) has Startrite shoes called 'Mercury', which we chose for exactly the reason you are describing. Their website even has them reduced in price at the moment.
