Pigging costumes - history days/World Book Day etc

Forgive me if someone's already suggested (or set up this - if so please point me to it), but would a costume swap shop make sense to anyone else?

We've already had Tudor Day and Victorian Day this year with World Book Day looming and a Greek (Ancient) day mooted for the summer term. With a 10yo DD and an 8yo DS, we can't hand me down costumes easily - DD has a fantastic Tudor dress in her wardrobe and a greek shift (which also had an Egyptian incarnation), but there's no way DS would wear either of those. So each time a 'Day' comes around it's scouring eBay and out with the needle and thread to make or mod whatever we can get.

They wear the costume for the day then never again, so they're rarely trashed and grown out of before they could be of any use for fancy dress or something else.

If there was some kind of register of what other MNers have available on here with a suggested fit/age and a pic or two, then with just a couple of clicks and the price of postage maybe it could be borrowed for the day. Or bought for a realistic amount (unlike some of those eBay costumes, grrr).

Clearly I haven't thought this through, but surely it makes some kind of sense?

Just a thought.

Yours ever

Bear

PS black Tudor doublet & hose, with hat and white shirt for 8yo boy; and Victorian white frilly apron with long grey check skirt and white frilly bonnet for 10/11yo girl available now. Pics on request. Otherwise they're going on eBay and I'm milking them for every penny of profit I can get (after all that's what the sellers did......)

Just entering this world (DS1 in reception) but it sounds like a good idea to me!

Does sound like a good idea, I've got an Ace of Hearts playing card costume which was my first attempt at this, not a bad start considering I was dreading this part of school, ds still likes to dress up in it though so it's off limits at the moment Grin

Great idea!
We have 'castles' day next week and a detailed description of what the outfit should be: long white dress, apron, brown waistcoat and white head thing (bonnet?). What a nightmare!! There's nothing even close that you can buy from a fancy dress shop so I'm having to buy bits and bobs and make others. The following week there's science day and they have to go dressed accordingly...
I hate it, have no time, as I work full time, no talent for making things, zero imagination....

Anyway, this is all very unhelpful! I def think it's a good idea!
